Universal Material Builder (Maya/Houdini)
The Universal Material Builder is the continuation of my previous redshift material builder script. This Tool helps Artists to create complex materials in seconds. It works for the latest versions of maya and houdini and supports the following Materials.
Maya: Redshift, Arnold and V-Ray
Houdini: Redshift, MaterialX and Arnold
If you want to know how it works in action, here is an introduction video that explains the new features:
In detail:
To make it even easier, you can now drag and drop your texture files onto the window and it will detect all the channels automatically. In case you have a unique naming convention, there is a tags manager implemented which gives you the option to fit the tool to your workflow and naming.
In the preferences you can choose the supported render engines and also set up your input color space. This will give you the opportunity to work with the aces workflow.
Some extra options like assign to selected object, combined 2D Texture Nodes are handy quality of life options, that keep your project organized. Copy Textures to Project will detect the current sourceimage folder and create a subfolder with you material name and copies the images into it. If it detects images are drag from inside the current project, it will not copy them again.
Houdini Related:
Inside Houdini the script detects if the current context is a material context and will create the materials there, otherwise it will use the /mat context.
If the textures are copied to the projects source folder or the texture come from inside the project, it will always use the relative path inside the texture node.
Hope it makes everyones life a bit easier.
Installation:
After Downloading the Zip, unpack it to you prefered location on disc. After the installation you can not move it without reinstalling it.
Maya: Simply drag and drop the install.mel file into you Maya viewport and a shelve icon should pop up on your current shelve.
Houdini: Double click the .bat file and select your houdini versions packages folder inside your documents. This simply copies a .json file to this location and adjusts the directories inside accordingly.
!!!DISCLAIMER!!!
Not working for Mac Users unfortunately.
Cheers!
